FREE Covid-19 Resources For Artists And Creatives
By Literally broke
The past week has been a whirlwind. Whether you’re rich or poor you’ve been impacted. And, to be completely transparent, I’ve been struggling to know what I have to contribute to this conversation.
I want to offer support, but more importantly, I want to offer resources. I started Literally Broke because I believe artists need personal finance education and frequently don’t get it. The starving artist myth is real, but if we want art that is equitable we must take the steps to improve our lives that our government simply won’t (though I hope it one day does).
In the past few days I’ve seen countless former co-workers and collaborators post on social media about how they are no longer employed. Many work in the service industry, just as I once did, and are now left without an income. Because I’m a personal finance blogger I want to ask “do you have an emergency fund?” But I don’t, because I know the answer is likely no. Two years ago my answer would have been no.
So while you think about the immediate I also hope we all see this moment for what it is: a reckoning. Our community needs to be smart. Capitalism and our government are quick to leave us out. We are our own advocates, so start with yourself.
